ABOUT TIGER STEEL
Why was Tiger Steel setup in 2013 when there were many steel suppliers
based in New Zealand already?
Feedback from within the steel industry indicated there were severe issues facing the industry.
These included a lack of trust in the quality of steel and steel certification, very low product knowledge with many sales reps and their managers having never visited the steel mill they were supplying from, as well as a resistance to using new innovative steel products, used already worldwide, which caused our productivity to lag behind other countries, especially within Asia, as imported finished products were becoming more of a threat to NZ manufacturers. There was also high staff turnover, where our clients where talking to a new rep every 6 months,
In early 2013 Tiger Steel was setup as an indent steel supply specialist, and very quickly the above issues were resolved for clients and our focus was on a low cost setup, providing steel supplied directly from the overseas steel mills through indent terms.
The standard production and shipment lead-times was 2-4 months from order, however, we have in recent years expanded our service abilities to include long-term, fixed price contract supply such as consignment, as well as stock and supply, which is where we can hold your stock anywhere within New Zealand and we can arrange delivery to you within 24 hours.
Tiger Steel has a lean low-cost company structure, enabling consistently competitive prices to clients. Our focus on ensuring a significant percentage of expenditure is allocated for quality assurance, including conducting testing on our steel through a NZ based independent lab, annual mills visits which are incredibly important to continuously improve our steel products as well as purchasing through steel mills with ACRS accreditation where possible.
We have developed strong relationships with some of the largest, most efficient and technologically advanced steel producers in the world. We distribute our competitively priced imported steel to customers throughout New Zealand, from Kaitaia to Invercargill.

ABOUT BRENT CURNOW
The Managing Director is Brent Curnow, who is the founder of Tiger Steel and remains as the driving force behind Tiger Steel. He is a widely experienced steel supply expert who has been visiting overseas steel mills annually since 2007. After graduating AUT with a Bachelor of Business, it was only a few years later that he was managing both a large sales team and trade team at an Auckland based steel merchant. He then moved to the beautiful Bay of Plenty to Mount Maunganui to manage a branch for a fast-growing steel distributor and then started Tiger Steel in late 2012.

Outside of steel he enjoys the outdoors, horse racing, music and especially playing golf and
sponsoring his local Mount Maunganui Golf team.
